Grampa raised 8 children, and often used to test out new arrangements and music at home before bringing them to his bands. So the days often consisted of gathering in the living room, handing out instruments and sheets and testing out different melodies and voicings. This recreated the atmosphere he was used to growing up and also gave his children valuable musical experience.
